12 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Boudoir Photography

What women are asking when they inquire

The thought of a boudoir session can be scary. When talking to women about their session, I get asked all kinds of questions. This is why I wanted to compile a list of the 12 most frequently asked questions that I get to give you some insight on preparing for your boudoir session with us!

1. Do you share my images?

Our number 1 priority is making sure our clients are comfortable, especially with boudoir! It can be a powerful experience, but that also makes it nerve wracking. Sometimes, you’re learning how to love your body and you aren’t quite ready to share your images with the world. Sometimes these photos are specifically for your partner and you don’t want them to be for anyone else’s eyes. Maybe you need to keep them private because of your career. These are all valid reasons for not wanting to share your photos so the answer to the questions is- It depends on your personal preference! We always ask permission before we share anything and we only want you to share what you’re comfortable with.

2. Do I have to wear lingerie?

You definitely do not have to wear lingerie specifically. It all depends on your personality! There are so many wardrobe ideas other than lacy little things and we have plenty of ways to help you choose what you will be most comfortable in.

3. Do you have payment plans?

Absolutely! Pre-Session Payment Plans are available to all clients. They’re interest-free, you can select weekly, bi-weekly or monthly payments, for up to 24 payments and you receive session bonuses with the pre-purchase of any collection!

4. Is hair and makeup included?

Hair and makeup is included in your session! It’s so important for you to feel pampered and having some time in the styling chair is a great way to do that. We can help you complete your look whether it’s the “I just woke up like this” or full glam look you want!

5. Do you Photoshop my images?

Your images include our Signature processing and enhancements. This means we will adjust for lighting as needed, remove anything that will not be there in 2 weeks (think blemishes, bruises, acne, etc), we smooth indentations from clothing lines and do some skin softening. We never want to go too far with editing and want you to feel like you still look you though! If you have a request beyond these things, we will always have a conversation about how you want your images to look. If we can accommodate your request, we will happily do it. Keep in mind, we are skilled in posing and lighting to bring out your absolute best as well.

6. Where should I buy my lingerie?

Right here at the studio is a great place to start! We have our lingerie boutique, Styled X Backstage, on site and we carry many options and sizes. Included in your session is a wardrobe fitting and styling appointment where you can come shop the boutique privately, bring what you have from home so we can help with styling or selections from those pieces or if you want to shop somewhere else, we can help you with a fitting and updated measurements. If you’re looking for a specific look, let us know! We’re here to help you find the perfect look for your session.

7. What type of print products do you have?

We offer a variety of print products but the stars are our albums, luxury keepsake boxes with prints in them and stunning metal wall art pieces. Our 12×12 Diamond Cover Album is my absolute favorite and I love the feel of picking up a physical book! It so surreal to see yourself like that.

“20 gorgeous pages from my boudoir session that I flip through every chance I get. I think I look I look at them more than my husband! It’s a reminder of how much my self-image has completely changed after having my session.” -Bekka, on her boudoir experience!

8. Do you offer digitals?

Most of our collections include digital images and you always have the option to add on more if you’d like! We have an A La Carte menu that you can choose a digital collection from as well. The digital collections are delivered in a private, online gallery that you can download and share!

9. I’m freaking out! How can I calm my nerves?

Nerves are all a part of the experience and totally normal! I always say that it would be more weird if you WEREN’T nervous. The nervousness you have in the beginning of your session only makes your “WOW” moment at your image reveal that much better! Seeing your photos for the first time is truly like no other!

10. How many outfits should I bring?

This depends on the collection you choose but we always suggest having 3-4 looks picked out whether it’s lingerie, our Just the Sheets set or fine art nudes. At minimum, we will shoot 2 different looks and based on my personal experience, backups never hurt! Once you have your collection picked out and have selected from any session bonuses you qualify for, we’ll be able to help you with an exact number of looks that you’ll need too.

11. Should I get to my session early?

We always suggest you plan accordingly for traffic and parking however, our studio opens at 10:00 am and our client arrivals are scheduled for 10:00 am as well. When you arrive, we welcome you to take a moment and let us help you hang any wardrobe pieces that you’ve brought with you. You’ll have plenty of time to use the restroom, we’ll grab you a drink and then you can get comfy in the styling chair!

12. Where is your studio located?

We are located in Downtown Topeka, Ks! The city has done a phenomenal job in revitalizing this area in recent years and I love the unique features of the historical building we’re in. There are so many great things around us too. If you’re looking for a place to stay while you’re in town for your session, somewhere to grab a bite to eat after or just want to check out some cool shops in the area, ask us about it! We’re happy to make recommendations.

If you’re not from Topeka and looking to travel to us for your boudoir session, the studio is only 1 hour from Kansas City’s international airport! Clients from surrounding areas like Lawrence, Manhattan and Wichita love how close we are to them too.
